Biography

Currently living and working in Greater Vancouver, Simone Guo was born in China to an artist’s family and practiced Chinese brush painting in childhood.  She studied at Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China where she completed a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Art History, and in 2004, earned another Master of Art History degree from the University of Victoria.  She has had a number of solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions in North America and Asia, and her work is represented by Art Beatus Gallery, Visual Space Gallery in Vancouver BC, and Art Rental & Sales at Vancouver Art Gallery.

Guo's body of work continuously explores a unique visual vocabulary, transforming the familiar into the unconventional.  Her depiction of a poetic yet stylized landscape reflects on personal perception, history and memories, and draws upon a broad cultural reference.
